About Meyer Building

Built Upon a Solid Foundation

Our Story

Roots Take Hold with Robert Meyer Sr.

At Meyer Building, the story of craftsmanship and commitment spans generations. Our roots trace back to 1968, when founder Robert Meyer Sr. began selling agricultural products to support local farmers. In 1975, he recognized a need to provide steady, year-round employment and shifted the business toward designing and constructing post-frame buildings. Over time, Meyer Building became known for structures that stand the test of time and for relationships built just as strong.

Innovations Drive Reputation

In 1985, we took a bold step forward by designing and manufacturing our own trusses in-house. This move toward vertical integration allowed us to ensure greater quality and consistency, engineering every truss to professional standards using stronger materials.

That same spirit of innovation inspired Robert Jr. to create the Perma-ColumnĀ® foundation system in 2004, an industry-changing solution that keeps wood out of the ground using 10,000-psi precast concrete and robotically welded steel brackets. It is a breakthrough that continues to redefine durability and sustainability in post-frame construction.

The Family Legacy Builds with Gene Gerber

Robert Jr.’s cousin, Gene Gerber, joined Meyer Building in 1994 and purchased the business in 2004, continuing the family tradition of mentorship and excellence. By 2020, Gene’s sons, Jason and Matthew Gerber, officially became the company’s third-generation owners. They each brought significant construction experience to their roles.Ā

Growth and Capabilities Expand Under Jason & Matthew

Since taking ownership, Jason and Matthew have grown Meyer Building’s team to roughly 75 craftsmen, engineers, and builders. They have also positioned the company as a premier Midwest post-frame builder with full general contracting capability.

Serving a growing number of industries, Meyer Building now designs and builds custom post-frame structures for commercial, agricultural, community, equestrian, and residential markets. In recognition of its continued impact, the Wells County Chamber of Commerce named Meyer Building the 2025 Outstanding Business of the Year.

Empowering Customers to Leave Their Own Legacy

Built on the same values that started it all, every structure we design and build is more than a building. It is a commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and long-term value. We are proud to continue the work begun more than half a century ago and remain dedicated to helping every Meyer Building customer leave a legacy that lasts for generations.

Why We’re Known as “The Building People”

Meyer Building got the reputation for being The Building People because our work has always been about more than the structures we put up. It is about the people—our customers, our team, and the communities we serve. It reflects our belief that the quality of a building starts with the character of the people who create it, and we strive to grow, support, and encourage our team so that the work we do honors God and strengthens the relationships we build along the way.
